Trail Mark
Each trail is marked with flour, chalk, and/or shredded paper. The Hares will lay these marks, and sometimes others of their choosing / creation, to (hopefully) get everyone safely to the Beer Stop and/or the end of trail.
Hash Mark
These are the main trail markings we are looking for! Generally these would be blobs of flour or shredded paper. Three marks in a row on trail usually means you are on the right path.
Check
From this mark, trail can go off in 369 hashing degrees, but never the direction from where you came. This is ALWAYS true trail! There may be multiple false trails leading away from the Check. The trail with three Hash Marks in a row generally means you are on the correct path (unless marked otherwise as below)
False Trail
X marks a bad trail. From here, go back to the Check and look in a different direction for the correct trail. These marks may be left after any number of Hash Marks from the Check.
YBF (You've Been Fucked)
Similar to the False Trail, but much more fun to find.
Check Back
This mark means there is a side trail between this mark and the Check. Head back towards the Check, looking to either side of the trail for side trails. This mark sometimes includes a number, if so, start looking for trail that many marks back (but be careful as the hares numbers are often wrong)
Hash Arrow
This mark generally means you are on the correct trail, and that you can continue in this direction to look for more marks. This marking is made primarily in Chalk, but some of our more "talented" hares like to draw them in flour or shredded paper.
Some Hares (wont shame them here) like to use these markings on the way to the YBF's.
HH (Hash Hold)
All Hashers must stop and wait for the last hasher in the pack to catch up, then all may continue on trail.
BVFC (Be Very Fucking Careful)
You're about to cross a busy road, a slippery/dangerous section of trail, or over an alligator pit.
BN (Beer Near)
You're nearly there... In the vicinity(ish) you will find the hares (or a hidden bag) with some lovely, (hopefully) cold beverages for your imbibing pleasure.
BS (Beer Stop)
The Holy Grail of Hash Marks!
ON - IN
You've made it to the end of the trail. Get yourself a beer, grab some grub, or change your clothes while you wait for the last of the hashers to arrive. It's almost time for the circle.
